A while back my granny’s health was failing. I took up guitar lessons as a thing I could selfishly do in my life that distracted me from long hospital visits and all that. She really raised me as a kid a lot and I did a lot of taking care of her at the end too. I stuck with the guitar thing, kinda got myself to semi useful on it. It changed what music I put on regularly and I found myself digging back into guitar heavy music. And nobody really had the same dynamic that dime did. I just think he’s brilliant but also I just think he seemed like a super rad dude. I recently traded a dude for a dimebag guitar for myself to play, she’s ridiculous, and during that moment I felt compelled to do the man himself. I like doing some more realistic takes but he’s still unmistakably in my style too. I just lean into that anymore. All my life I wanted to be Frank frazetta, or Todd McFarland, or Sam Keith, or god forbid Ralph steadman. But I never could get me outta my art. At one point I realized that was what made it my art and just leaned into it. I think there’s something to that.
But here’s my ode to the man, the myth, the legend. If you guys dig this one I’m gonna maybe follow it up with some other important icons in music. It’ll come tied up on a cord, ready to wear. With some bonus cool stuff tossed in on top.
